About Us

On Sam Rittenberg Boulevard, a Tuesday night at Elks Lodge 242 sounds like this: bingo cards shuffling, numbers called out over a cheerful crowd, and a first-time player getting a patient, friendly tutorial from a member who's been coming here for years. That detail, pulled straight from the people who show up week after week, tells you everything about the culture inside these doors.

Founded as part of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge 242 has long been a fixture in West Ashley and the broader Charleston community. The lodge runs on a simple but powerful idea: that neighbors who eat together, volunteer together, and look out for veterans together build something that outlasts any single event or fundraiser. Programs like Soldiers Angels veteran food distributions have drawn volunteers and recipients alike, turning the parking lot into a place of real, tangible impact.

With a 4.6-star rating across 165 reviews, the word that keeps appearing is "marvelous." The food is honest and satisfying, the drinks are fairly priced, the parking is ample, and yes, there's even room for your RV. This is a working lodge, not a showpiece, and that's exactly what makes it worth your time.

What We Offer

Elks Lodge 242 keeps a full calendar running year-round. Tuesday Bingo Nights are the anchor event, drawing regulars and newcomers into a room full of good-natured competition and easy conversation. The bar and dining area serve up solid food and drinks in a relaxed, no-pretense atmosphere that makes it easy to stay a while.

Beyond the social side, the lodge is an active hub for veteran support programs, including food distribution partnerships with organizations like Soldiers Angels. Members organize fundraisers, community outreach events, and charitable initiatives tied to the national Elks mission of caring for veterans, supporting youth, and strengthening local communities. The facility itself is spacious enough to host larger gatherings, and the RV-friendly parking makes it accessible for visitors passing through the Charleston area.

Membership opens the door to all of it, from discounted event access and voting rights to the quiet satisfaction of being part of something that has served American communities for well over a century.

The Elks gave America
Flag Day.

Long before it was a national observance, the Order set aside June 14th to honor the flag. Patriotism has always been one of our cardinal principles, and every lodge meeting still closes the same way it has for over a century.
